I don’t know what, but there is something quite fascinating about fire. I don’t think I speak only for myself when I say that I could watch a fire burn for hours. I could stare at those logs burning in the fireplace on and on. The development team at Laconic Software seems to share my passion for fire.

Their application Fantastic Flame Screensaver aims to bring a blazing fire to your desktop. What it does is it sets everything on your desktop ablaze. When your computer goes idle, Fantastic Flame Screensaver becomes active and sets everything alight.

By default, Fantastic Flame Screensaver uses a snapshot of your desktop, meaning that it will seem like your desktop just caught on fire. From the configuration panel you can set it up so that Fantastic Flame Screensaver displays other backgrounds – like a burning dragon, or a burning "keep out" sign, or a burning zodiac sign.

By default Fantastic Flame Screensaver uses the “Hot Fire” flame style. From the configuration panel you can choose from a large offering of different flame styles. You can even choose several flame styles and have Fantastic Flame Screensaver switch between them at regular intervals of time.

The configuration panel displays a preview window so you can see how the flame styles you select look like.

Fantastic Flame Screensaver can play music in the background. You have several options when it comes to music. The application can play chimes, the built-in soundtrack, or your tracks. You can specify a track you like and Fantastic Flame Screensaver will play it in the background.

Speaking of sound, you can also select what sound the flame will play. You can choose between sounds like “Propane Torch”, “Blast Furnace”, or “Flame Thrower”. My favorite is “Dry Wood.”

Before you go get Fantastic Flame Screensaver and put it to the test, take a look at the following technical details:
Download – the download weighs in at little over 5MB, which means it should not take long for it to complete.
Installation – Fantastic Flame Screensaver provides support for several versions of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system, including the old but popular Windows XP, the much avoided Windows Vista, and the latest and greatest, Windows 7.
During the installation process you are asked to install Fantastic Flame Agent, a small program that lets you launch Fantastic Flame Screensaver whenever you want either by double clicking the flame icon in the System Tray, or by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F.
Limitations – the trial version is not time limited; some features are disabled though. In the trial version, you can only use the default background and flame style.
